World's worst commercials

I'm speechless.

This has to be the worst commercial I've ever seen. It's an real commercial from Poland, although you'd be forgiven for not knowing that considering that the "Grand Pol" logo features the American flag in it's logo.

Finished watching it? Good. Now, go back and watch it again. It rewards you with subsequent viewings.

Now, I don't know the first thing about marketing, but I'd bet having a barely pronounceable product name like Prusakolep is the first thing on a checklist to disaster, right next to terrifying synthesizer music and video shot and edited by a junkie on a bad trip.

If you thought Prusakolep was entertaining, wait until you get a load of Kana-hakkliha. You may think Kana-hakkliha is an vegetarian organization dedicated to preventing cruelty to chickens. Think again.

This is an honest-to-god ad promoting ground chicken, apparently with a side dish of LSD. I'm sorry, but eating meat is the LAST thing I want to do after that, probably because the echoing voices and creepy music made me nearly wet my pants.

Our third runner up tonight, for the World's Worst Commercial, is an ad for, well, I'll be honest, I'm not really able to focus on what it is they're selling! There's something about this video... I just can't seem to put my tongue.. er, finger on it.

Rock the Cashbar

Growing up in Manitoba, you spend around 7% of your pre-tax income on wedding socials, which in it's simplest form, is a fundraiser for an engaged couple.

Wikipedia lists the following: In the Canadian province of Manitoba, a "social" is a fund raising party (for a wedding, non-profit organisation, charity, or some other worthy cause). It is also known as a Manitoba Social. Typically, they will include music (current popular music for the youth and "oldies" music older adults), dancing, food, raffles (and other fund raising games). When held in support of a wedding, often they are used as a way to shake down some details of the wedding (e.g., letting the bride try a hair style, practicing dancing, etc.)

Oh, and there's also a cashbar.

The Clash's hit song, "Rock The Casbah" was often played at these gatherings. It's the only place I'd ever heard the song, and was usually intoxicated. So you'll forgive me if, for years, I seriously thought that the song was called "Rock the Cashbar".
I think I actually almost got into a fistfight once, with a gentleman in a smelly Dead Kennedys shirt over what was actually being sung in the song's chorus. I mean, a song about a Casbah?

Yeah. Right.

Turns out Smelly Dead Kennedys Shirt-Man was correct. No cashbars were injured or mentioned during the recording of that track.

My mistake. I'll let go of that one.

However, I will NOT let go of my belief that the world would be a better place if there WERE a song detailing the Rocking of Cashbars.

If someone else doesn't write one soon, I may have to take this matter into my own hands.

If you're not familiar with the classic Clash tune referenced above, I present it to you below.

I'm In Love With My Car (Vancouver 2006)

It's no secret, I'm a huge fan of the rock group Queen.

One year ago tonight, my cousin Scott and I, along with a few other friends, got to see the remaining members of Queen play live in Vancouver. (See my post from last year, titled "I can die a happy man.")

It was awesome.

I just found a video on YouTube from that night - Below, I present to you, Queen's I'm In Love With My Car, from the last show of Queen+Paul Rodgers 2006 tour, April 13, 2006. (I'm sitting just to the right of the stage - you'd see me in the video if the lights were on!)

I'd been waiting for this song all evening. In my teens, I'd seen a video of Roger Taylor's performance of this song from Montreal that inspired me to play drums. I've found that particular video on YouTube as well, and have included it below. (The sound and video are out of sync in points) It was the coolest drum performance my teenaged eyes had ever seen. Pretty much every lesson I've learned on the drums came from watching Roger Taylor videos.

Where the hell have I been?

It's true - I've not updated the old blog lately. It's been a busy spring! I recently wrapped up some big freelance jobs, including:

Fantastic Four Omnibus Volume 2 HC
Collecting Fantastic Four issues #31-60, and Annuals #2-4, this massive, oversized, 832 goliath showcases some of the best work of the Stan Lee/ Jack Kirby duo! Released just in time for the upcoming film Fantastic Four 2: Rise of the Silver Surfer. I reconstructed the colour on issues 32, 38, 41, 53, and 60, along with a handful of covers!
Order a copy today!

Chronicles of Conan Volume 12: The Beast King of Abombi and Other Stories
The Chronicles of Conan series is one of my favourites to colour. It features fantastic art by the great John Buscema, and contains some of the best serialized storytelling of it's time. Peter Dawes, Wil Glass and myself get to do some great colour design in these volumes, and I think that this one will be the best installment yet. It's one of the books where I get credited by name, so I feel very compelled to do my best when working on it!
Order a copy today!

I've also had an opportunity to colour a very special project that I'll be announcing here over the next couple of weeks!

If you can believe it, Cat and I have also found the time to fit a fairly large number of movies into our busy television schedule! I'll post a few reviews here shortly!

It looks like after a long absence from blogging that I'm back in black - I think I've caught the posting bug again!
